Retail Banking International Talent Programme

Bringing better banking to millions of people

As a retail banking trainee, your work will directly impact millions of customers. And if you’ve got smart ideas for how to push banking forward, you’ll be encouraged to make them happen - right from day one.

A journey to discovery: three rotations to define your career at ING

This is a two-year global traineeship where you can discover different parts of our organisation across three rotations, of which you can even do one abroad. After these three rotations you can move into a permanent role.

First rotation: dive into our business

During your first year you’ll do two rotations of six months each. We will help you to find your first rotation, taking into account the information you provided during the selection process as well as your own personal preferences and, of course, ING’s requirements. During your first or second rotation you’ll also attend your first global learning experience: a week where all trainees of your ‘year group’ come together in Amsterdam (if circumstances allow) to learn, network and develop yourself.

Second rotation: will you opt to go abroad?

Halfway through the first six months of your traineeship, it’s up to you to start arranging your second rotation. Now it’s a matter of making use of your global network and your own initiative! Many trainees choose to go abroad for their second rotation, and ING offers you opportunities to do so, if circumstances allow. Working internationally provides you with a wealth of valuable experience, both personally and professionally..

Third rotation: gain in-depth knowledge or experience in another track

You’re still in charge; your third rotation is arranged by you. Your trainee manager will help you in making your decision: will you dedicate this last rotation to deepening your knowledge of the business (within your track), or will choose a different track? For example, as an Operations & Change or Retail Banking trainee you can get analytics experience, or as a Risk trainee you can get a better understanding of our Wholesale Banking business.

Global learning experiences: to kick off and close your ITP journey

All ING trainees participate in our global learning experiences. Here, you learn about every aspect of banking and gain insights into the role of a bank, the bank balance sheet, the competitive landscape and ING’s strategic priorities. Needless to say, these events also help you develop your personal skills, such as communication, stakeholder management, and growth mindset.

What you're going to do

Selection process in 4 steps

1 - Submit your application

The first step of the selection process is filling out your online application by selecting the country and track you would like to apply for. You submit your CV and motivation letter, and ING will be in touch regarding your first screening.

2 - Take the assessment

Should you pass your first screening we will invite you to take an online test to assess your ability to understand, interpret and evaluate information, and whether you align with the ING culture.

3 - Interview with HR

After passing the assessment, we will invite you for an interview with your future trainee manager among others, we will ask you competency-based questions with the input of your online assessment results.

4 - Business panel interview

The final step in the selection process for the ITP is the business panel interview where you meet representatives of ING’s senior management from your chosen track plus the trainee manager. This is your moment to share and showcase your unique skills and talents and to ask your burning questions to our senior leaders. If you successfully complete the selection process, you will receive a job offer from ING and you can sign the official contract shortly afterwards.
